Work on the timber elements of the prayer hall is now complete, and the studwork partitions for the male and female ablution areas are in place. This week the master-craftsmen of Blumer-Lehmann begin work on the ‘trees’ of our magnificent atrium, together with the teaching zone and the cafeteria.
Last Thursday the Blumer-Lehmann team led a ‘topping out’ ceremony to celebrate the hoisting into place of our feature dome. The first complete ‘crown’ element has been erected by the Blumer-Lehmann team. It was assembled at ground level and craned into place on top of four pillars, fitting exactly with a tolerance of less that one millimetre! Precision engineering indeed. Visitors now receive an awe-inspiring sense of the majesty of Cambridge’s newest monument.
