On July 28 the first phase officially completed on schedule. The following statement has been released by the architects Marks Barfield and the Main Contractors, Gilbert-Ash:
After a successful ground breaking ceremony, attended by the local community in October 2016, the design team and Gilbert Ash have been working closely together to progress the basement works of the Cambridge Mosque in Mill Road. This first phase of the works are now almost complete, with over 50 lorries a day removing the excavated earth followed by 30 concrete lorries a day pumping concrete. The ramp and basement carpark are formed and the footprint of the Mosque clearly defined with the ground floor slab ready for the next phase of the works to commence.
The team have been working with Blumer Lehmann, a Swiss timber specialist contractor, to check and agree the timber details which included a trip to Switzerland to their factory to review full size mock ups of the timber glulam structural trees. These are currently in fabrication and it is with great excitement that we look forward to these arriving on site, later this Summer.
